HAND ME DOWNS was first shown in February 2024 @ Fuller Rosen Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. Large color soaked drawings informed by traditional Polish crafts such as wycinanki — the Polish craft of paper cutting - and classic Persian motifs.
Below is the running list of thoughts compiled while working:
The anxiety of waste
Wood scraps from my fathers workshop
Wood scraps from around my home
Using water from a dehumidifier in the studio to clean brushes
War time survival mentality
Using mcdonalds napkins when visiting Babcia’s house
Stories of Babcia stealing toilet paper and sugar packets from work
The ball of used rubber bands in Babcia’s kitchen drawer… one use away from snapping or going limp with no stretch
Reusing things until they fall apart
Things fall apart and then you again
This iteration of HAND ME DOWNS is shown in February 2025 @ Gehiem Gallery in Bellingham, WA. A year later, new works reflect back the following thoughts:
RESILIENCE as theme
Resilience of material
Resilience of spirit
Resilience of human
Motherhood
Caring
Caregiving
Caregiving as an art practice
Healing
Scooping up + holding close
In a tight and warm space.
My arms wrapped around my daughter
My arms holding a hot ball of emotion and anger
Compassion
