Gerry Sims
Gerry Sims is a Seattle-based artist whose work explores the Black experience through material transformation and realism.
Working with casting, fiberglass, plaster, and reclaimed materials, Sims recreates everyday objects to examine labor, consumption, incarceration, and systems of economic inequality.
His practice is informed by lived experience and a close proximity to the justice system, using familiar forms to hold memory, resilience, and social history. Through material weight and subtle disruption, Sims invites viewers to reconsider what is often overlooked and whose lives are embedded in the objects we encounter daily.
